4 short rounds of Mike (Taiji/Gung Fu) vs. Dylan (TKD) at the Oct. 12th meeting of the Rec Hall sparring club. Some great action in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
Highlights from our first videotaped meeting of the year on Oct. 12th. Enjoy!
Also check out our buddies in NYC, Martial Arts Madness, who held an awesome event the same weekend. Videos: http://www.youtube.c om/user/MartialArtsM adness
A weird ruleset we decided to try on a whim. Ready for this?
Rules: Kicks only, no standing up.
Basically capoeira with a super-low ceiling, or maybe upkick practice for BJJ.
Another of our games to improve our sparring. Our modified Cantonese leg boxing looks slightly like no-gi judo. Pity we didn't get more footage of it, it's a fun ruleset!
Rules: Maintain contact with arms, kicks and sweeps only. The object is to knock or sweep the opponent to the ground.
Sparring match at the 2006 Western PA World Tang Soo Do Championship. This is point sparring, so unfortunately you won't see any knockouts. I'm on the right.
Jump kick portion of my Sam Dan test. The video's a bit long and not all that interesting, but I put it up so you could see the type of endurance we need to build up before the test. If we look tired, it's because we are. It was very, very hot in that gym, and this was the most grueling part of the test. My uniform must've weighed 10 pounds afterwards.
The most interesting part of the test for 3rd degree black belt in the World Tang Soo Do Association. One-step sparring, Self defense, free sparring and breaking. If we look tired, it's because we are. It was very, very hot in that gym. My uniform must've weighed 10 pounds afterwards.
Part 2 of Mike (Tai Chi/Gung Fu, black shirt) vs. Ian (Muay Thai, yellow shirt) on Feb 13th. Sound is off a bit. First time both people had sparred someone of the other's particular style. Much to Mike's chagrin, I stopped recording just as he got tagged in the face.
Mike (Tai Chi/Gung Fu, all black) vs Jon (Tae Jitsu/Freestyle, red pant stripes) in our sparring club Feb. 13th. Always an interesting fight between those two. Jon got the guillotine on Mike because Mike stopped his eye gouge (1:22)-he didn't really want to take Jon's eye out. No, we don't do MMA rules.
