Two months after winning the heavyweight title from James J. Braddock, Joe Louis made his first defence of the crown on 30th August 1937, against durable Welshman Tommy Farr. Little was expected of Farr - of 200 journalists at ringside, only one backed him to last the distance. But Farr surprised everyone - not least Louis himself - and gave the Brown Bomber one of his hardest fights.
