The new crew spacecraft will have more volume than the Apollo capsules, reducing development time, boosting stability, and permitting safe travel for up to six crewmembers.
NASA's Phoenix Mars Mission blasted off Saturday, aiming for a May 25, 2008, arrival at the Red Planet and a close-up examination of the surface of the northern polar region.
TacSat-2 launched successfully at 7 a.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 16. TacSat-2 will be propelled into a circular orbit approximately 255 miles above the Earth by a Minotaur I launch vehicle. The satellite, housed in a shroud atop the rocket, will be released into space between 100,000 and 150,000 feet altitude, and will share the brief ride into the cosmos with NASA's GeneSat-1.
"Mars Pole Base here, the Phoenix has landed." :)
I'm slow at uploading...but here it is!
Visit www.nasa.gov/phoenix for more info, no point pasting whole mission briefing here.
However I do believe this is the first landing using rockets since Vikings in 1976. The Mars Pathfinder and Rovers used giant air bags.
Discoverying NASA's Extreme Environment Mission Operations.NASA employees and contractors have completed several NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations, or NEEMO, missions. Living in Aquarius for up to three weeks, they work alongside experts from the National Undersea Research Center, or NURC, simulating some special conditions of life aboard the International Space Station.
When he was accepted into NASA's astronaut training program in 1978, Guy Bluford never aimed to become the first African-American in space.
STS-8 aboard the space shuttle Challenger, STS 61-A (also aboard the Challenger, just months before its disastrous end), STS-39 (aboard the Discovery), and STS-53 (also aboard Discovery).
I always uploaded launches from launch camera angles. I found this video particularly interesting. This video recorded three International Space Station crews watching the STS-126 Endeavour launch from space. You can see the launch on a 13' screen in the background :P
Even though I know this video won't get many views, I still think it is worth it.
Astronauts Robert Curbeam and Sunita Williams completed their roles as spacewalking electricians by concluding STS-116's efforts to rewire the International Space Station. They have turned their attention to the remaining tasks of today's spacewalk.
STS-126 has arrived at the International Space Station. Shuttle Commander Chris Ferguson was at the controls of space shuttle Endeavour docking to the station's Harmony Node at 5:01 p.m. EST.
